Honouring our finest - Essex Police Annual Awards 2011

On the evening of Wednesday October 5, Chief Officers, Essex Police Authority members and special guests attended the Essex Police Annual Awards ceremony for 2011.

The true stars of the show though were the officers and staff whose exceptional performance was honoured and recognised throughout the evening.

Forensic Science Courses - South Essex Weekend and Evening College

Ray Newman of SCD Major Crime Review has recently been recruited as an Associate Forensic Science Lecturer on the above course.  This may be of interest to PCSO's and other police staff, especially those within Crime & Scientific Support departments.

The college is reintroducing their short courses in Forensic Science.  These will initially be run at the Southend Campus, but they may later be extended to their sites at Basildon & Thurrock.  At the present time the courses run on Saturday mornings (beginning this week – 1.10.2011), but depending on demand, the college may run additional courses on Monday & / or Tuesday evenings. The courses do not lead to a formal qualification, but students who complete each course will receive a course attendance certificate.

The courses will provide a 'taster' for anyone considering related vocational / academic qualifications; pursuing police careers, etc. They may also be of interest to Police Community Support Officers and Special Constables; or indeed anyone just having an interest in the subject due to the popularity of programmes like ‘Waking the Dead’ ‘CSI’ 'New Tricks' ‘The Body Farm’, etc.

South Essex College does not claim that the Forensic Science Courses are recommended by Essex Police and attendance by Essex Police employees, etc., cannot be regarded as part of any approved police training.

However, staff have always been encouraged to consider further education as part of their continual development; but whether or not they choose to attend these courses is purely a private matter for individual consideration.

Anyone interested in finding out more, e.g. courses, dates, fees, etc., should contact the South Essex College direct.
