Tax relief for uniform cleaning

Some police staff members may be able to claim tax relief on the cost of cleaning their uniform if it’s a recognisable uniform that shows you've got a certain sort of job.

A Police Community Support Officer like Police Officers can claim an expenses deduction of £140 per year and other police service employees who are responsible for cleaning their own uniforms may be able to claim a £60 deduction.

Further information is available on the HMRC website at http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/manuals/eimanual/EIM32480.htm

Simply send a letter to your tax office (see link below) advising them of your job role, employer, your personal details such as home address etc. and the fact that you wear a uniform for your work. You will also need to include your national insurance number. Refer to EIM32480 as above link shows.

The attached link will help you locate your tax office.  http://search2.hmrc.gov.uk/kbroker/hmrc/locator/locator.jsp?type=1

If you need assistance in any emergency situatin, when pressing the emergency button please state your location prior to any other conversation.  This will automatically activate assistance.  Although GPS is available the spoken word is quicker.

Please remember to fill out a 'NEAR MISS' form should the occasion arise.  This allows for UNISON H & S monitering.
